Dr Eleonora Kountoura
Research Director at the Institute for Historical Research (National Ηellenic Research Foundation). She holds a PhD from the University of Athens on the Byzantine clergy and the society of the "Dark Ages" (1991). She has published 1 book and edited 4 books on Byzantine hagiography, Byzantine society, Relations between State and Church. She has taught seminars at the University of Athens and the National Hellenic Research Foundation. Her studies have been published in international scientific journals and in collective volumes. She has participated in international scientific conferences in Greece and abroad.
In 2004 she started a research project of the digitising the hagiographic texts of the Late Byzantine Period. She coordinates the team researchers and works for the implementation and processing the Data Base.
Dr Nike E. Koutrakou
She is a Byzantinist and diplomat. She holds a PhD degree with Honors in History from the Université de Paris I-Sorbonne with a thesis on Byzantine imperial propaganda (published Athens 1994). Her, more than 50, published works in scientific journals and collective volumes and her scholarly interests include topics on the history of ideas and mentalités, diplomatic and military affairs and foreign relations (especially Byzantium and the Arabs), women’s studies and hagiography.
Since 2005 she is external collaborator with the Late Byzantine Hagiography Database Program/Institute of Historical Research/Hellenic National Research Foundation. Her contribution includes transcribing, commenting and checking Database hagiographical texts against relevant published texts and, when necessary, relevant manuscripts.
Dr Ekaterini Mitsiou
She is a Byzantinist. Born 1973, Ioannina (Greece), Dr. phil (Byzantine Studies), University of Vienna 2006. Dr. Ekaterini Mitsiou has worked on projects at the Austrian Academy of Sciences, in National Hellenic Research Foundation/NHRF, at the University of Vienna and at the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities. Currently she is a member of the Wittgenstein Prize Project “Moving Byzantium” of the University of Vienna.
Research interests: Socioeconomic history of Byzantium, Gender Studies, Byzantine (female) monasticism, Byzantine Law, Digital Humanities, Social Network Analysis and Prosopography.
When she was a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Historical Research/The National Hellenic Research Foundation Athens, Greece (2012-2015) she participated also in the “Late Byzantine Hagiography Database Program”. Her contribution covered commentary and checking Database hagiographical texts.
Prof. Stephanos Efthymiadis
He is Professor at the Open University of Cyprus. He holds a DPhil from the University of Oxford, UK (1992). He is the author of more than 10 books on Byzantine hagiography, prosopography, historiography, the study of antiquity in Byzantium and correspondence. His articles are written in Greek, English, French and Italian and have been published in scientific journals and in collective volumes. He has given numerous scientific lectures and has participated in a large number of international scientific conferences. He is the editor of the two-volume Ashgate Research Companion to Byzantine Hagiography (2011–2014).
Since 2005 he collaborates with the Project "Hagiography of the Late Byzantine Period". His contribution includes commentaries on the hagiographical texts.
Professor Symeon Paschalidis
Professor of Patristics and Hagiography at the Department of Social Theology and Christian Culture, AUTH and Director of the Patriarchal Foundation for Patristic Studies, Thessaloniki. He has also been President of the Byzantine Research Centre, AUTH. He has given lectures in greek and foreign universities and scientific centres and has participated in many scientific conferences in Greece and abroad.
He is the author and editor of 9 books and more than 50 of his articles and chapters, written in Greek, English, French, Russian and Italian, have been published in scientific journals, collective volumes and proceedings of conferences. His main interests lay on Byzantine and Post-Byzantine hagiography, and early, byzantine and modern Monasticism and ascetic literature. Since 2005 he collaborates with the Project "Hagiography of the Late Byzantine Period”, contributing on the editing and commenting of the related hagiographical texts.
Assistant Professor Dimosthenis Kaklamanos
Assistant Professor (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki). He holds a PhD degree (School of Social Theology and Christian Culture/Aristotle University of Thessaloniki -2006) with a thesis on “The Hagiographic Works of Theodore Stoudite”. He has participated in research programs of the Institute of Historical Research (NHRF), the Centre for Byzantine Studies (Aristotle University) and the School of Social Theology and Christian Culture, Aristotle University. His research interests concern Hagiography and Hymnography, Palaeography and the cataloguing of hagiographic manuscripts, and the critical edition of hagiographical and hymnographic texts.
During his occupation in the research program ‘‘Hagiography of Late Byzantine Period’’ he worked for the collection of hagiographic material, the typing of the texts, and the correction and bibliographical update of the accompanying identification tags of the texts.
Prof. Sophie Métivier
Sophie Métivier holds a PhD degree in History and is Professor of Byzantine History at the University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. She is currently the director of the doctoral school (école doctorale) of her University and member of the editorial committee of the Revue des études byzantines.
She is the author of two monographs: La Cappadoce (IVe-VIe siècle). Une histoire provinciale de l’Empire romain d’Orient (2005) and Aristocratie et sainteté à Byzance (VIIIe-XIe siècle) (2019). Her research currently focuses on the political and social history of sanctity and cult in the Middle Byzantine Period. She has recently co-edited with André Binggeli and Stephanos Efthymiadis a volume on Les nouveaux martyrs à Byzance (2021).
In the first phase of the Program (2005-2008) graduates of philology and holders of postgraduate diplomas participated in the typing and proofreading of the texts: F. Vassiliou, Fani Voinou, Despina Kalyvinou, Zafeiria Kouri, Vassiliki Koutrakou, Eugenia Hatzithanassi.
In the second phase of the Database upgrading Dr. Eirini Kasapi participated (1.1.2019-30.11.2019) in the Program “Anavathmis”: "Upgrading and enrichment of the Database of Hagiology of the Late Byzantine Period". Her work included the Database enrichment by adding new texts and inputting respective set of data and corrections in all the files (prosopography, places, topics, manuscripts, etc.). Postgraduate students Giulia D'Albenzio and Jean-Baptiste Foulon also worked on the project.
